Intermittent Reward and Conditional Affection

Apology, promise, romance, and generosity following abuse are part of the regime, not a departure from it. These tactics condition attachment through intermittent reinforcement, rewire the target's sense of safety, and make later isolation, surveillance, degradation, and threats more effective.

  Apology and Promise-to-Change Following Coded Incidents

  Expressions of remorse, regret, or promises of permanent change that function to reset the target's resistance, restore access, and re-secure the attachment bond after controlling behavior has been applied. These messages do not constitute genuine repair. They operate as intermittent reinforcement that trains the target to remain invested despite prior harm, thereby deepening traumatic bonding and making future control tactics more effective.

  Weaponized Affection and Love-bombing

  Intense, often premature or exaggerated expressions of love, unique connection, destiny, value, or belonging that function to create a false sense of safety, lower the target's defenses, condition rapid attachment, and establish intermittent reinforcement.

• REC-3

  Conditional Affection and Probation Framing

  Expressions of affection, forgiveness, normalcy, or restored goodwill that are explicitly or implicitly conditioned on the target's compliance, improved behavior, or acceptance of the abuser's terms. These messages function as ongoing behavioral control: the target learns that safety, warmth, and belonging are contingent rewards that can be withdrawn for noncompliance.
